Welcome to my website Kelilu, where I invite you to discover my works and my artistic world.
My work is a transdisciplinary project that brings together graphic art, linguistics, acoustics, mathematics and philosophy around a central intuition: our entire human history is founded on the speculative association of sounds, signs and meanings.
My research and questioning have led me to rewrite these associations, from the throat all the way to three-dimensional space.
Kelilu
Kelilu is a compound word made from kel – a shortened form of Michele’s nickname Kélé in Italian – and ilu, the name of my invented alphabet.
Much like “from A to Z”, i and u are the vowels at the two extremes, while l is the consonant that connects them. Thus ilu becomes the name of my alphabet.
It is also a play on words in french: “quelle illusion”, meaning “what an illusion”.
Is there not always something arbitrary in the way we associate letters with sounds? A convention upon which we nevertheless build all our worlds, and which allows most of us to understand one another.
