How can one talk about Michael Meyer, how can one introduce him to you? That’s not so easy…
Precisely because he is a complex man – but not in the sense that meeting him would cause you problems, rather in the positive sense of complexity.
In other words, he will open up a world to you that you did not even imagine existed. An artistic, intellectual, semantic, emotional universe… In short, he is an extraordinary man, not like everyone else, set apart. I know no one else quite like him.
I assure you that I’m objective in what I’m saying; I’m not trying to flatter him. Especially since, these days, I’m not sure that being different is necessarily a mark of quality. It is almost a question of being an outsider, and that cannot be easy to carry.
And yet, that is precisely what makes him a true ARTIST – in the sense that he is an expert in different creative fields, while at the same time his marginality gives him the ability to be completely original, unique in what he creates and proposes. I have the feeling he will hold it against me for using the word “expert”. The meaning of words matters to him. But I stand by it… Artificial intelligence says: “The artist materializes an idea, an emotion or a concept through a visual, auditory or literary medium.” That is exactly what Michael Meyer does, simply yet profoundly, with an uncommon authenticity.
His world is graphic, phonetic, pictorial, digital, mathematical… It is constantly moving; nothing is ever fixed. Above all, his creativity springs from an exceptional imaginative force. He is one of those artists who, beyond making you dream or stirring emotions within you, also makes you think, challenges your reasoning and unsettles your perception of reality.
On top of that, I have the privilege of knowing the man behind the artist. Multilingual, a father, a skilled cook, a lover of nature, Michael Meyer is also an artist in his everyday life. And debating “metaphysical” subjects with him late into the evening is quite a challenge!
There is only one thing left for me to say: let yourself be carried away by this encounter with his work. Accept the invitation to travel into a world of poetic shapes and colours, a world that invites you both to dream and to think.
